Hotel Review: My Stay at The Palms of Boracay

I stayed in Boracay for 5 days and 4 nights, 2 nights (December 3-5, 2014) of which were in The Palms of Boracay, a lovely hotel a few minutes walk away from the beach in Station 1.

Away from the Hustle & Bustle of Boracay

Boracay has 3 popular stations, station 2 has the most number of establishments where people can eat, drink, and be merry. Station 1 has a few bars, but has the best white and fine sand on the island (in my opinion), and it is also in a secluded area where there aren't a lot of tourists and commercial establishments (which is a definite plus for me).

Room

I waited for the shuttle van that took me from D'Mall to The Palms a bit after lunch. After being pick-up, I was greeted with warm smiles and a refreshing welcome drink.

Plus points for the welcome drink!

The room was spacious and comfortable. The room had its own coffee maker, two tables, a few chairs, complimentary water, a sink, and a refrigerator; everything one needs for a short or long stay in Boracay. The bed was soft and comfy, perfect for a good night's sleep. The only downside was the view of the construction site happening just outside the hotel, but it was beyond their control.

The private toilet and bath had several towels, and a hot and cold shower (and a bathtub!). Toiletries such as soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, and even body lotion were all provided.

Service & Staff

The staff were friends and attentive; they were willing to provide guests with the information they need for tours, places to go, and things to do.

Facilities

The reception area was spacious and was one of only two areas that had wi-fi.

I liked the design and architecture of the hotel (I'm no expert). The room was homey and the hotel was spacious.

The clubhouse and dining area were spacious and had wi-fi.

The clubhouse also had its own bar and lounge area.

The restaurant served both local and Western dishes to cater to the different guests' palettes.

The hotel has its own pool and lounge chairs. If you're tired of bumming around the beach, you can relax here. The pool looked like it wasn't cleaned on a regular basis, I don't blame them since there's a construction going on just in front of the clubhouse and pool area. All the dust and grime from the construction area just falls into the pool.

For such a big hotel, there were no elevators to get to the upper floors and rooms. I was in the 2nd floor so it wasn't much of a problem, but if a guest was staying in the upper floors it would be such a hassle to go all the way up and down, especially if guests have to carry their luggage. The wi-fi was fast once you connect, but you can only use it while in the reception and clubhouse area, you can't use it in the room.

Location

The location of The Palms isn't beachfront, but it only takes around 5 minutes walk to get to the beach in station 1. The hotel is also far from all of the action in station 2 and 3. The good thing is that the hotel provides a shuttle service from the hotel lobby to D'Mall and vice-versa. If you're looking for peace and quiet, The Palms is an ideal base.

Price

The Palms of Boracay isn't a budget hotel, but it provides good value for money with the rooms and facilities it offers.

Would I recommend The Palms of Boracay?

It depends on what you're looking for. If you want a place closer to D'Mall and the establishments on station 2 and 3, you're better off staying somewhere else. If you want a place where it is quiet and closer to the nicer part of White Beach, I'd recommend The Palms of Boracay.

  1. It's nice to see the disclaimer at the bottom of the article. :) I just wonder if the noise at the neighboring construction site of Kikko's Boracay can be heard inside the rooms. Sometimes, construction work is still busy even at 11pm.
