Hotel Review: Relaxing in Bale Mi Hotel

I have been to some of the lesser known provinces in the Philippines, but have yet to set foot on the white sand beach of Boracay. For some reason I kept on putting my trip to Boracay on hold, but this time around I've decided to visit the most popular tourist destination in the country. For my first two nights in Boracay, Bale Mi Hotel next to Bolabog Beach hosted me for 2 nights.

A Relaxing Stay at Bale Mi Hotel

Bale Mi Hotel is not in the center where all the restaurants, bars, and hotels are located, but there is one restaurant just in front of the hotel. The hotel is situated right next to Bolabog Beach (not beachfront but just a minute walk to the beach). It's location is perfect for a solitary wanderer like me.

The common space and reception are just outside of the rooms, making it convenient for travelers to easily check-in and out of the hotel.

Room

The moment I opened the door and saw the room, I felt a different ambiance. The room was spacious and was equipped with everything you need from chairs to TV to a refrigerator (a bonus for me). There was so much room I thought that another double bed would fit inside.

The bed was soft and comfortable which gave me a good night's sleep during my entire stay.

The room had its own private toilet and bath (hot and cold water). The wi-fi is only available in the garden area, but I was able to use the Internet in my room since I was on the first floor.

Location

If you are into wind surfing or kite surfing, Bale Mi's location is ideal. Bolabog Beach is only a short walk from the hotel.

You can go the whole day kite or wind surfing, and once you are tired you can easily get to the hotel and get much needed rest.

Also, I managed to walk all the way to the viewpoint in Mt. Luho from Bolabog Beach (it took around an hour and a half). I didn't have to rent a tricycle or motorbike to get to the viewpoint from the hotel. If you want to be closer to White Beach and D'Mall, Bale Mi is not an ideal starting point. It takes around 10-15 minutes walk to get to D'Mall, but there are plenty of tricycles that would willingly take you for around P10 one way.

Pricing

The rooms on the first floor cost P2000 per night during low season and cost P2500 during high season, and P3000 during peak season. The rooms on the second floor are priced at P2500 (low season), P3000 (high season), and P4000 (peak season).

The rooms are reasonably priced for the amenities you get, but the only downside is the location. It takes around 15 minutes to get to D'Mall if you walk, but there are several tricycles that could take you there from the main road for around P10 one way.

Service

The staff is friendly and accommodating. They ask to clean your room whenever you step out and check-in and check-out is easy. The staff will also help you find places and things to do when you ask them, they're helpful.

Would I recommend Bale Mi Hotel?

Yes and no. Yes, because I like the solitude I get from staying in the hotel, it's quiet and very homey. Also, if you are into wind or kite surfing, staying in Bale Mi is highly recommended. No, because it is quite far from D'Mall and White Beach (although you can easily hire a tricycle to take you there once you get to the main road).

I stayed in Bale Mi Hotel Boracay on December 1-3, 2014.
