Top Beaches to Visit in Lombok for First Timers

Indonesia is a diverse country with plenty of things to do and experience. One way to describe this country is think of the Philippines but much bigger. On my second trip to this country I decided to explore another part of it, which was Lombok. I've heard good things about this island, especially it's beaches.

Here's a rundown of the top beaches I've been to on this beautiful island of Lombok.

Tanjung Aan

I've been to Indonesia before, around 3 years ago from the publication of this post. I've explored Bali's beaches and were amazed by some of them. However, when I got to Lombok, I got to see one of the beast beaches I've been to in the country, which is Tanjung Aan.

The sand of this beach is bone white and stretches as far as the eyes could see. The glistening, blue waters are glass-like and enticing. The waters are relatively calm, making it a good place to swim or wade around in. You could spend an entire day here, its vastness makes it perfect for those who want to find a spot for themselves. One of the good things about this beach is that there are very few establishments around, keeping it pristine.

*You have to pay a fee of IDR 5000 upon entering.

Mawun Beach

Mawun may not have the tranquil waters of Tanjung Aan or its fine, white sand, but it's just as beautiful. When I was there (during the day), the waters were rough, which is not ideal for swimming. However, you can still enjoy the water and try body surfing and rolling with the waves.

*There is an IDR 10000 fee for entering this beach.

Selong Belanak

This beach has fine, white sand that stretches for more than a kilometer. It's huge enough to find a spot for yourself to soak up the sun or just relax away from the crowds near the entrance.

Selong Balanak has the right mix of tranquil waters and waves perfect for beginners who want to learn how to surf. For those who just want to relax and swim, the waters are nice enough.

*You have to pay an entrance fee of IDR 10000.

Kuta Beach

Kuta beach is a popular place to go for both tourists and locals. The golden sand and clear waters are perfect for swimming or spending a few hours in after exploring the island. And the good thing about this beach is it's free. It's also close to many accommodations, restaurants, bars and convenience stores.

Gili Trawangan

When I arrived in Gili T (its nickname), the first thing that came to mind was Boracay, but with more establishments and people. The beach was still nice though, but once the sun sets, the island turns into one big party place.

I wasn't able to visit Pink Beach and many other beaches on the island, but I was happy with the ones I did get to see. These are my recommended beaches for those who are visiting this island for the first time. There's more to Lombok, I've only managed to scratch the surface, I hope you get to explore more of the island in your trip.

*You can rent a car to explore mainland Lombok, the price varies from IDR 400,000 and up, depending on the size of the group and places you'll visit. Alternatively, you can rent a motorcycle for around IDR 100,000 (this includes gas) or less for the day. There are many bike shops that rent motorcycles, just ask around for the best price.
