Itinerary and Expenses for Occidental Mindoro Trip

I only managed to scratch the surface on my trip to Occidental Mindoro, but it was an adventure. The verdant countryside, rural atmosphere, friendly locals, beautiful attractions and all the other travel cliches you can think of were present in this island.

Occidental Mindoro is a budget destination because there are places where you can sleep in for around P200 per night shared toilet and bath. Food is around P40 to P100 and moving around is not too difficult because there are plenty of habal-habals, jeeps, vans and buses.

Here is a breakdown of the expenses I incurred during the trip:

Expenses

P175 - Bus to Batangas Pier
P290 - Roro to Abra de Ilog
P220 - Van to Sablayan
P800 - Food and drinks
P400 - 2 nights at Emily Hotel
P40 - Transportation
P205 - Pandan Island fee
P250 - Round trip boat to and from Pandan Island
P50 - Libao Lake fee
P10 - Panikian Lake fee
P625 - Driver and motorbike rent for countryside tour
P220 - Sablayan to Abra de Ilog van
P270 - Abra de Ilog to Batangas Pier ferry
P175 - Bus to Cubao from Batangas Pier
P3730 - Total expenses for the trip

You could go much cheaper, depending on what you do, where you sleep and what you eat. The biggest expense you might incur is probably the trip to Apo Reef, If you are a small group you have to pay a lot for the boat to get there, spend the night and entrance fees. It is better to visit one of the best reefs in the world with a large group to divide the expenses.

Itinerary

The initial plan was to go to Apo Reef, however we had to make changes because there was only 2 of us and we did not want to shoulder the entire P7,000+++ boat rent to get there and go back. We changed our itinerary and went to Pandan Island on the first day and toured the countryside the next. We visited the lakes, waterfalls and met the Mangyans living in the rural areas or outskirts of bigger towns.
