Travel Guide: Longshuixia in Wulong, Chongqing

The first time I went to Chongqing, I wasn't able to do much because I was simply passing through. I made sure that upon my return I went to some of the attractions within and without one of the biggest cities in China. One of my stops during my visit was Longshuixia Fissure Gorge in Wulong.

Deep Into the Gorge

Right after the nearby Three Natural Bridges, I went straight to the bus that went to the gorge. I didn't get much information (in English) about the place, other than directions. I liked Tiger Leaping Gorge in Yunnan so this particular attraction piqued my interest.

What I liked (and to some degree, disliked as well) was that the 'natural' attractions in China are quite developed. It's so easy to explore the area, even for families with kids and elderly (as long as they're capable). Most pathways are paved, there's a clear path to follow and there are buses, elevators, stairs, etc to get from point A to point B.

Longshuixia was no exception.

I began my walk through the gorge, the towering rock formations above me and the river below were sights to behold. The way everything was laid out, made me feel the 'gorge-ness' of the place, if that makes sense.

There was a waterfall in one part of the walk.

The waters were a clear blue throughout, thanks to good weather.

Here's another video:

I had fun exploring the gorge and liked it better than the Three Natural Bridges. Based on the hefty entrance fee, I'd pick the gorge over the bridges, if I had to choose between the two and if I was saving money.

How to Get to Longshuixia

You have options on how to get to Wulong, these are:
  • Get on subway line 3 and alight at Sigongli Station and take exit 3. Look for Sigongli Public Transit Hub and board bus bound for Wulong. The fare is around CNY60.
  • Board a train from Chongqing North Railway Station to Wulong. The trip takes approximately 2.5 hours.
  • Take a tour bus from Longtousi Tour Bus Center to Xiannü Town Tourist Center. Tickets for adults are CNY83 and CNY 42 for children.

Upon arrival at the bus station, get on a bus bound for Xiannü Town Tourist Center; the fare is about CNY8.

Once at the tourist center, buy your tickets, here are some of the fees:
  • Three Natural Bridges and Two Giant Dolines; CNY135 (March-October), CNY95 (November-February)
  • Longshuixia Fissure Gorge; CNY115 (March-October), CNY85 (November-February)
The entrance fee also covers the shuttle bus and elevator ride at the Three Natural Bridges. You'd have to pay an extra CNY15 for the shuttle to get to the gorge.
