Beware of Scammers

Thailand can be the best place you visit but it can turn into one tourist trap if you are not careful.

As soon as you get to the city there are plenty of tuktuk drivers promising to take you anywhere you want. Beware of these drivers because they are trying to pull a fast one on you. They will charge you an exorbitant amount of money just to bring you to a place that is 5-10 minutes away.
Always stick to your guns and turn down the drivers that charge way too much. Haggle down as much as you can to get the best price possible. In my experience, the drivers almost always charge 100 Baht just to take you to the temples and will offer to take you somewhere else first. Turn those down and stick to your destination. I ended up wasting precious time going places and not getting to the places I actually wanted to visit.

Beware of tuktuk drivers and their schemes. Here are important things you should take note of when you are in Bangkok:

  1. Everyone will always charge you double, triple, or even quadruple the actual price that is why it is important to always haggle down as low as you can get it. Although keep in mind that these vendors are also trying to make a living for themselves.
  2. Be firm whenever you haggle or talk to a tuktuk driver. Some of the tuktuk drivers will take you to travel agencies that are expensive. They probably get a cut out of the money that the agency gets from you. There are cheaper alternatives all over Bangkok that offers the same tours.
  3. Vendors will always be in your face trying to sell you something.
  4. Like any other place, be careful of your belongings because there are pickpockets eagerly awaiting the unknowing tourist.
