When traveling, we’re not always up to going out all day, exploring cities, trying food or doing all sorts of things. There are times when we just want to hangout at the hotel or hostel. I have experienced this myself whenever I travel. Sometimes I just want to chill, read a book or kill time playing a few games. It’s easy to pass the time nowadays because of the many games available online.
Here are some online games you might want to try while traveling.
I love to play all sorts of games on my phone or laptop. I used to be an avid gamer when I was a teenager. I played the popular Final Fantasy series of games, NBA Live, and a bunch of other role-playing games that took weeks to finish. Fast forward to today, I’m no longer the gamer that I once was, but I still play games when I feel like it. I appreciate the simpler games now because they’re great time fillers, especially while I’m waiting for something or just want to chill for a few hours.
Battleships Armada
This is an old school game that reminded me of my childhood. Our family used to own something like this, and I often played it with friends and relatives. Fast forward to today, I can now play this online. The mechanics are simple enough. All you have to do is place your boats in different positions that make it difficult for your opponent to bomb them. Once you’ve decided on the positions, the game begins. You then have to launch bombs to hit the ships that your opponent has placed on the game board. Once you or your opponent’s ships get destroyed, the game ends and either of you becomes the winner. There are three difficulty settings to choose from before you start the game.

Tetra Blocks
This is another game that is familiar to me. I also played this when I was in elementary school. The game is simple and easy to follow. It’s just like Tetris. Your score increases as you fill out the spaces between the shapes that appear on screen. It gets more difficult as you move through the levels. It takes timing and some imagination to move the shapes into their proper place.
Letter Scramble
I had fun playing this game. You must come up with a certain number of words using the letters that come up on screen. The words can be long or short as long as they’re valid. There’s a time limit so you must think fast. This game will test your vocabulary.
Classic Mine Sweeper
This is another classic I used to play when I was younger. You have to avoid the bombs laid out by using clues given to you. I still find this game quite frustrating (but fun at the same time) just as I did back when I used to play it when I was younger.
Daily Word Search
If you like word games, this is one you might want to consider playing. All you need to do is find the words on the left. It doesn’t matter if the words are diagonal, horizontal or backward as long as they’re spelled correctly. You need to find a certain number of words to finish a round. This game will also test your vocabulary.
Chess Grandmaster
Chess is, simply, put, brain exercise. In this game you get to exercise your tactical mind to beat your opponent. You get to choose the difficulty setting before you start the game. I haven’t played chess in a while, so I started with easy mode. I still remembered some of the checkmate moves I (and my opponents) used to do.
Klondike Solitaire
If you like card games, you’ll like Solitaire. This is a classic game you can play online while traveling, hanging out at the common area or while waiting to reach your destination. The game mechanics are simple enough to follow, if you’ve already played Solitaire (in-person) before.
