I thought I wouldn't make it to Cesky Krumlov at the time I went. The bus tickets were sold out. However, I found out I could catch a bus bound for Ceske Budejovice then take another one to Cesky Krumlov. It was a longer trip but I really wanted to go. The stars aligned and then there I was, in a charming old historic center.

It's a popular day trip destination, so groups of people are expected. However, this didn't diminish its charm. The city has a history that dates to the 13th century. Its architectural influences include Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance. The castle towers above the old town and is a distinguishing feature of Cesky Krumlov's skyline.

The best way to get around is on foot. I had a lovely time simply walking around and weaving in and out of the center's cobblestone streets surrounded by centuries old buildings. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants (and shops) wherein you can take a break to soak the ambiance in.

There are different views to get different angles of the historic center. However, the best spot is from the castle. It provides beautiful bird's eye views of the old city. You can see most if not all of the buildings and the surrounding landscape.

Some of the places of interest while you're exploring include:

  • Cloak Bridge
  • Church of St. Vitus
  • Cesky Krumlov Castle

Like in many of my trips, I look for day or days to simply do nothing. Cesky Krumlov is the perfect place to spend a lazy day or two in after exploring Prague and visiting some of the capital's most famous attractions.
