Chasing Waterfalls in Biliran:

Biliran is an underrated province that has yet to reach its potential. Other than Sambawan Island, you can visit the many waterfalls that are in the region. During my recent trip, I was only able to see two, Ulan-Ulan and Tinago Falls.

Ulan-Ulan Falls

I've seen pictures of Ulan-Ulan Falls online, after seeing them, I told myself I had to see it when I go to Biliran.

Here's a video of Ulan-Ulan Falls:

A typhoon that struck the province last year (2017) devastated the town and the province's natural attractions. A friend told me that the falls were wider before the typhoon. Despite this knowledge, I still enjoyed my time.

There was a short and manageable trek before reaching the waterfall.

It was a hot day during my visit, so my guide and I decided to take a dip in the pool. You don't have to go directly under the waterfall to get wet, the downpour was so strong that if you stood within a couple of meters from it, you'd be soaked in a few minutes.

Tinago Falls

Tinago Falls no longer looked like the pictures I saw online because of the typhoon. The pool got smaller and there are now more rocks under the waterfall. You can clearly see the devastation when you look at the concrete structures and toilets in the area.

I made the most of my stay but didn't stay too long.

Here's a video of Tinago Falls:

The Beautiful Countryside

What I liked about Biliran was not just the waterfalls and the beach, but also the countryside. The rice paddies, terraces and fields with the mountains as their backdrop were simply beautiful.

The skies were clear and blue, and the fields below them cast their reflection.

The idyllic setting made for a pleasant motorcycle ride through the countryside. Its nice that the Philippines still has a lot of places like this.

Visiting the Waterfalls

I paid P500 for the motorcycle rent with driver to visit Ulan-Ulan and Tinago Falls. I paid an additional P200 as a guide fee for Ulan-Ulan Falls.
