Things to Do in Coron

I've been to Coron three times and would definitely return. This part of Palawan can rival some of the best beach destinations I've been to. The chill vibe of the town despite tourism development is a nice contrast to the changes that have taken place in El Nido. There are now more dining and affordable accommodation options since my first visit several years ago.

Coron The Wandering Juan

These are some of the things to do in Coron that can help you plan your trip.

Island Hopping

Island hopping is one of the primary things to do in Coron. You book a joiner or private tour to visit a combination of islands that have stunning beaches, beautiful lagoons, and vibrant underwater ecosystems. You have a few options on the kind of tour package you want to get.

Tour A

Coron The Wandering Juan

One of the island hopping tours you can do while in Coron is tour A. This tour takes you to probably the most famous destination of the island, which is Kayangan Lake. The lake has clear waters that allow you to see several feet below. It's deceptively shallow. Before you reach the actual lake, make sure to take a photo of and with the iconic view. You'll also visit a few other snorkeling and beach destinations during your excursion.

Tour B

The highlight of tour B is Twin Lagoon. You'll be mesmerized by the glittering clear waters once you approach the entrance. You have the option to swim under the opening or jump into the lagoon from a makeshift platform and staircase. There isn't much to do here other than swim or go to a small island. Other stops include the usual beaches and snorkeling spots. Agencies always split up the main attractions such as Barracuda Lake, Kayangan Lake and Twin Lagoon. They probably do this to maximize profit from visitors who have multiple days in Coron.

If you want to go beach bumming, this island hopping tour is for you. Malcapuya Island is one of the best beaches I've been to in the Philippines. The powdery, white sand and the clear, blue waters are picture perfect. Other stops include Banana Island and Bulog Dos.

Coron Ultimate Tour

If you only have one full day in Coron, this is the tour to book. The Ultimate Tour combines highlights such as Kayangan Lake and Twin Lagoon in one trip. You get to see the best of Coron in one jam packed excursion. Go swimming, snorkeling, and take several photos during your trip.

Visit a Safari

Coron The Wandering Juan

One of the things to do in Coron is go to a safari. Calauit is a unique destination not just in Palawan but in the Philippines. See giraffes, zebras and other animals during your trip. Most packages include Black Island, but if your boatman can't take you there, they'll include another stop.

Go to the Hot Spring

Coron The Wandering Juan

Relax after a day of island hopping by going to Maquinit. This hot spring will soothe your muscles and take away your stress. You can spend half a day here ot just an hour or so as part of a tour around town.

Climb Mt. Tapyas

Coron The Wandering Juan

If you have a spare day in Coron, spend it by climbing to the top of Mt. Tapyas. This mountain is doable even for beginners. There are steps, platforms and rest areas to soak in the view or just to catch your breath. Once at the top, you will be rewarded with overlooking views of the town and surrounding countryside. An ideal time to head up is before sunset. It's not too hot and it's the perfect time to watch the clouds turn fiery red and orange from blue and white.

These are some of the things to do in Coron. You can add these to your itinerary whenever you visit this part of Palawan. You won't be disappointed with what you'll see. Coron is one of the best destinations in the Philippines.
